Mt. Fuji Hoei Crater Hiking program for students

One of our recommended experiences for the education tour is a hike on Mt. Fuji.  Hoei crater is said erupted more than 300 years ago.  At that time, people say black ash covered the whole sky for weeks and that reached as far as Tokyo.

We met a guide at the 5th station, 2400m elevation point, and started to walk.  You can have 2 options, one to the 6th, and the other through the forest.  We took the forest route as it is much easier to hike with no steep trails and in 40 min or so, we found an overwhelming view of craters.  We recognized it from a distance but once you came right in front of it, you will see how huge the crater is.

There are 3 craters.  We tried to walk up to reach the first one, the largest one.  The trail was pretty steep and we all gasped.  Still, we went on and on until finally we reached the entrance of the largest crater.

If time allows, you can reach to Mt. Hoei over the crater but this time, as our time was limited, we just walked down to the bottom of the crater and came back.  Imagine, the bottom of the crater, you are standing, it’s something, awesome, and unforgettable!!

Our hike plan

13:00  Fujinomiya 5th station — Meet a guide and leaning about Mt. Fuji
14:00  Arr. Hoei crater
14:30  Bottom of the crater
15:30  Back to Fujinomiya 5th station — Bye to the guide
